This overview summarizes work developing a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for San Xavier del Bac. The CMP was based upon an understanding of San Xavier as a working parish, spiritual site, place of local, national and global cultural significance, and tourist destination located within the San Xavier District of the Tohono O’odham Nation in Southern Arizona. It describes the Mission’s historical and contemporary significance; sets out a clear chronology of the site including past conservation efforts and alterations; and offers a clear set of preservation guidelines, developed with input from the local community, that can be used to inform future work, maintenance, and stewardship. The purpose of this plan is to establish management policies that will ensure that San Xavier del Bac is conserved to the highest standards for present and future generations.
